Bio

Twice at the reigns of the U.S. Men’s Ice Hockey Team at the Olympic Winter Games, Williamson earned a silver medal with Team USA in the 1972 Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan. Williamson was a standout player at the University of Minnesota and played a pair of seasons for the St. Paul Steers (1962-63, 1965-66) and the Rochester Mustangs (1966-68) of the United States Hockey League before finding his calling behind the bench. He led the U.S. Men’s National Ice Hockey Team to a sixth place finish in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France, before guiding the 1972 team to a second-place finish in Sapporo. Williamson also coached the U.S. National Team for two seasons (1970-72) before coaching the 1974 U.S. National Junior Team in the first-ever International Ice Hockey Federations World Championships. Williamson coached numerous hockey legends, including Herb Brooks, Robbie Ftorek, Lou Nanne, Craig Patrick and Jerry York. He was honored in 2005 with the Legend of Hockey Award by the Hobey Baker Foundation.
