COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Proceeds from the upcoming U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Dinner will benefit both Craig Charron and The USA Hockey Foundation, as announced today by USA Hockey. The event -- which includes the formal induction of Art Berglund, Derian Hatcher, Kevin Hatcher, Dr. V. George Nagobads and Jeremy Roenick -- will take place Thursday, Oct. 21, at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.

After playing 12 years of professional hockey and skating for Team USA in two International Ice Hockey Federation World Men's Championships, Charron is currently undergoing treatment in a fight against gastric adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer), which was diagnosed earlier this year.

The 42-year-old lives in Rochester, N.Y., with his wife and four young children. Despite his illness, Charron remains committed to serving as the general manager of The Sports Centre at MCC, coaching youth hockey teams and working as the varsity boys' hockey coach at Spencerport (N.Y.) High School.

Charron, who is the nephew of 'Miracle on Ice' goaltender Jim Craig, enjoyed a productive playing career after being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1989 following his highly successful college hockey career at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He played professionally from 1990-2002, appearing in 726 games in the American Hockey League, International Hockey League and ECHL.

The North Easton, Mass., native spent the majority of his career in the AHL, playing 490 games for the Fredericton Canadiens, Cornwall Aces, Lowell Lock Monsters, St. John’s Maple Leafs and Rochester Americans. In eight full AHL seasons, he was named to three AHL All-Star Games and made the playoffs each season. In 1997-98, he was named the AHL’s Fred T. Hunt Award winner, which is given annually to the player that best exemplifies sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey. In 2008, "Sharky" was inducted into the Amerks Hall of Fame.

In addition to benefiting Charron, proceeds from the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Dinner will also go to The USA Hockey Foundation. The Foundation plays a vital role in advancing the sport of hockey in the United States by providing long-range financial support for USA Hockey's programs and initiatives.
